Can You Reflow Solder With A Heat Gun
Ive done it on a similar wlp chip using a small butane soldering iron with the heat gun option.
Can you reflow solder with a heat gun. It depends on the solder and the heat gun. And might not be possible depending on the hiardrier. I do recommend getting a real temperature controlled rework tool if youre going to be doing more of this in the future but a heat gun with no nozzle should be fine for a one off.
The process wont be suitable if you have to assemble a large number of electrical components on a board. Yes you can reflow solder with a heat gun. This would be rather tricky to do with a heat gun IMO.
I mean a heat gun like hot hot for removing paint and stuff. The goal here is to be much less destructive and thats why the first step is to test out how well your heat gun will melt the solder. If youre using an actual heat gun you might risk high temperatures that could burn your solder mask although Ive used them sucessfully in a pinch.
If a real heatgun point it at the gpu die and do that for a while and see if its better. Before you begin soldering make sure that all the small components on your board are held down. For parts with leads or low pin count solder tweezers can be very helpful.
For removing very high pin counts low temp alloy solder can be great like Chipquik. The heat gun produces a lot of air that can blow these parts away. Is it possible.
And the small size vs the heat guns diameter and air flow speed. But well doesnt matter as after all the googling and search i came to the conclusion that a reflow from a heat gun almost never lasts especially done by not a pro. To Correctly ReflowTM with a heat gun youd need to know exactly what you are planning to reflow and youd need to cover any parts you dont want moving around with kapton-tape.
